Possibly yes, and likely to be very liberating. The discomfort would mainly be from the survival-focused part of your mind. Especially if it has been suppressing you and restricting your ability to grow and evolve in the four categories of self: Physical, Spiritual, Mental and Emotional.
I hear this a lot. It is normal to be cautious but important to leave your defensive ego at home. More often than not, it will be said as part of the defensive, self-protective stance of the mind in the hope you will move on and forget about it.
A person should not have a Positive Change Session with me if their partner said they need to and that’s the only reason why they are there. It is never the right motivation. Any person needs to engage in working with me for their own reasons, no one else’s, and when they are ready for change.
That is up to you. I don’t make the changes. I help you to reduce the mental distractions and debris from your past and defensive, stressful patterns your mind has placed in your way, in its attempt to protect you and keep you safe.
After a session, the person usually feels a boost in their mental clarity with the motivation to make new changes for themselves. These can include changes in work, home, friendships, career paths, etc. Not all at once but certainly with the courage to commit to changing what’s not working in a person’s life at that point, which becomes a lot easier and clearer.
All you need to do is to be open, ready to share, be able to read and follow some simple instructions. The Tapping process delivers a type of “spring clean” for the person’s mind.
Occasionally, when I am working with clients, their mind senses something is going on that it doesn’t quite understand or can easily control and will begin to read the words through quickly, so it doesn’t allow the person to feel them.
In those moments, I would say to you: “OK, we are going to do that again, but this time I want you to breathe deeply first, then read the words through slower this time so you can feel them.”
Please be aware that the survival-focused part of your mind never really wants any words that have caused you pain to ever be spoken again. And definitely not to be said and felt again at the same time.
That is what it does in its attempt to protect us. It attempts to distance itself from those words; it represses and suppresses them. And when it does this, it tells us loudly and clearly that if we feel, we will experience pain, just like we did in our past and childhood.
That is exactly why we are taking the time to work through this in a conscious, deliberate and controlled fashion.
The signs a person could benefit from a Positive Change Session can present as feeling stressed, overwhelmed, and unable to make clear decisions. Issues may be displayed if they struggle to be genuinely open and express how they feel in a tender moment with a partner, child, or situation.
A person's mind may be hyper-vigilant, defensive and reactive, and usually when it is this way, they will be the last person to know and believe it.
There comes a time in our life as an adult when we need the courage to stand up to our defensive mind and see those hurtful topics and issues that it says have wounded us in a new light. This can require trust and courage for the person with the expertise of an effective therapist.
